Technical Visit

Tin Tailings Afforestation Centre (TTAC)

TTAC is an ex-tin mine located in the state of Perak, Malaysia covering an area of approximately 123 hectares including water bodies. Mine tailings are notorious for possessing hostile environment including poor soil nutrient and harsh microclimate for plant growth. The tailings are also contaminated with potentially toxic elements including lead and mercury. Since 1997, Forest Research Institute Malaysia (FRIM) has started greening the area with various indegenous and exotic timber species. Research and development activities in rehabilitation, carbon sequestration, plant physiology, conservation and silviculture have been carried out and some are still on-going. The centre is also a popular site for technical visit, training and bird-watching.

The technical visit will be conducted on July 5, 2012 and reservation is on a first come first served basis as only limited seats are available. Reservation closes on May 31, 2012.
